About Us

The Computer Centre of Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee was established in 1978 as RURCC (Roorkee University Computer Centre), which was catering to computational requirements of the entire region with DEC-2050 system. Tata Elxsi 3200 main frame computer was inducted in the year 1993 in place of obsolete DEC 2050. Later Alpha server – 400 & 1000 were procured to provide programming environment (C,C++) on Unix platform to users. This had enhanced the ambit of Computer Centre by providing programming environment along with computational requirement of the users. Induction of IBM RS-6000 mainframe was yet another step to provide different platforms for high end scientific computational work. Procurement of Param-10000 in the year 2000, brought the concept of parallel computing, which was significantly utilized by the research community.

The Information Superhighway Centre (ISC) was established in March 1996 to act as nodal centre for outside/inside connectivity to the campus and serves as an Information Technology Center for promoting the effective use of IT Systems, resource management and facilities for modernization/automation of the IP Infrastructure of the Campus.

Institute Computer Centre (ICC) and Information Superhighway Centre (ISC) have been merged into one entity vide notification no. Estt.(A)/1828/E-2281, dated 25th April, 2014. It is now known as the Institute Computer Centre. Now this Centre is providing 24x7 Internet facilties with Email services to all the users of IITR at Roorkee campus as well as SRE/GNEC campus of IIT Roorkee along with its role of central facilitator of computing facilites like HPC to students and faculty member who are intensely engaged in research activites.
